The Daughter of Flames

Prologue

I am the Phoenix, and I have a story to tell.  This is about a world that has thrived before ours, and even if it seems like a distant world, I assure you, its realities are very much tied with our own.  If you remember the stories you were told as a child before you went to sleep, though they have lost much of their power, they are part of our historical heritage half washed away by time.

Yes, my fellow Earth People, thousands of years ago, magic was much stronger than it is today.  It has faded away with the forgotten knowledge; like me, it grows with the power of those who believe in it.
Time has managed to wash away much of its memories and therefore has forced magic into its dormant state.  I can no longer stand by and see my world completely dissolve into oblivion.  I must tell you this tale, my tale, and if you find it in your heart to believe, perhaps nothing can truly be lost...

My fate befell me the day my mother came and told me she had a dream where one of the High Spirits came and spoke with her.  He told her that her child that was not of her blood had to leave and that the village was going to be destroyed.  I asked her to come with me but she would not.  She said I had to leave, I and no other.
